Welcome to Bedford Elementary School
Home of the Bedford Bees!
Happy New Year Bedford Families!
I hope that everyone had a relaxing and fun-filled winter break and is back rested and rejuvenated for the second half of the school year. We have a lot to look forward to this month.
I hope you will plan to join us this Monday, January 9th from 6:30 – 7:30 to learn about study skills with Mr. Thomas. Our PTA will also meet that night so it’s a great time to get information about what is going on around the school while also learning how to better support your child.
All students will be taking the MAP online assessment again this month and we will monitor each child’s growth to make sure that they are on target to make a year or more’s growth during this school year.
By now all students have received devices and all of our students are becoming very skilled at using technology to support their learning. We are excited that I-Ready, an online reading tutorial, has just been made available to our 4th and 5th graders. Our 1st – 3rd graders have been using this tool all year with great results. In the next week or so, your 4th and 5th graders will also be able to access I-Ready at home. As a reminder, both I-Ready and Dreambox are outstanding free digital programs that your students can be doing at home. They are aligned to the Common Core standards and not only help prepare your students for daily learning but for the PARCC assessment as well. We hope you will encourage your child to spend at least 20 minutes nightly on these tools.
Finally, the quarter ends on Friday, January 13th. We will be starting our first ever honor roll for students in grades 3-5 who have all A’s or all A’s and B’s. A Recognition Ceremony will be held on February 7th at 2:00 to recognize students who have made Honor Roll as well as the students demonstrating the Value of the Month. Invitations will be sent home in report card envelopes if your child has met the criteria to be recognized.
Thank you as always for all that you do to help your child meet with success here at Bedford. We really do have wonderful students and families!
