Kortney Griffin, Assistant Principal

Hello My Name Is...

Kortney Griffin

I was born and raised in Upstate New York in the Village of Williamsville (located outside of Buffalo) with my parents and two brothers, Jason and Tyler. As a student at Maple East Elementary I developed my love for school and reading.  This is where I decided that I was going to be a teacher when I grew up.  My childhood playmates often remind me that I was the toughest “play” teacher there was!  My extra-curricular activities included singing in the chorus, playing in the band, and cheerleading.

I found my way to Baltimore, MD after graduating from high school to attend Morgan State University—Maryland’s Best HBCU! (Historically Black College/University). At Morgan, I majored in Elementary Education and did many in-house trainings and internships with Baltimore City Public Schools.  There, I also continued my love of music by extending my flute training.  In 3rd grade I began to play the flute and upon entering college I accepted a music scholarship to play in Morgan State’s Symphonic Band and Magnificent Marching Machine (M3).

My leadership training began during my time in college as I learned independence, and developed leadership skills.  I can credit my initiation into Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority as a contributing factor to this development as I served in many local and district leadership roles.

I started my career in March 2004 as Miss Clark at Halstead Academy in the central area of BCPS. Throughout my career, I have taught in first through fifth grades.  I have also served in many different leadership capacities supporting teachers instructionally and being a steward for my schools’ missions.

I am very much a family person—although most of my family is in New York, I keep them close to my heart!  My Baltimore family, on the other hand, consists of a host of Morganite friends-turned-family.  But most importantly it is comprised of my wonderful husband, Justin, our 6 year old daughter, and our dog --Coach. As a family we enjoy family days that consist of movie nights, dancing, bowling, taking walks, and playing board games.

I am ecstatic to be a Bedford Bee!  As the Assistant Principal, I am committed to listening, continuous learning, and supporting the staff and students to reach their fullest potential.  I am looking forward to getting to know the students and families at Bedford.

Mrs. Griffin
